And for Today's Trick....

I LOVE op shops.  We've just visited our local one where I picked up a multitude of items for $20 (plus I noticed something I'd given a friends daughter had been donated - wasn't too impressed but TBH if it didn't suit them then fair enough - but it would have been kinder if they hadn't donated it to my LOCAL oppy where I'm going to see it!!!!!).  On the way home too I became a scavenger (have to wonder if these items may have been from the same people seeing as they've just had a big move - I have my suspicions!!!).  I spotted a dolls stroller sitting next to the donation bin - the ones that take all the goods that are so far gone that they're not worth donating.  I doubled back and sure enough it's a great little stroller - the fabric on it is stuffed but the frame and wheels are in excellent working order.  I'm secreting it away upstairs and will fix it up for Zoe's Christmas present - got her a dolls potty today for 50 cents and I'll make her a doll carry cot and some clothes for Gracie - a great present.  Will also mean I can get rid of the wobbly wheeled stroller that Logan gets to push around and he can have the decent one Zoe is using now - this one though is luxury compared to the others.  I also picked up a backpack with knee, shin and elbow pads for $5 - never been used - hopefully they fit her!!!  Logan got some excellent padded gloves - look like ski ones - for $1 and I got some novelty yarn, some cotton yarn and some storage tins and containers.  Next to the stroller was a bean bag too - it stinks of dog and I did think twice about it but I've hung it on a post outside and will pray for rain (won't have to be on my knees much to get that!!!) and then I'll empty the beans into an old duvet cover, burn the bean bag material and soak the beans in the bath.  When they're done I'll make Logan a bean bag - he'll be thrilled.

But today's craft project are slippers.  Zoe's grown out of all of hers and there were these little fake fur and fake suede slippers - pink of course - for $2.  The stitching is coming apart but they're a size 12/13 which is perfect because Zoe is only 10/11 at the most and I just know I can do something with them.

Step One: Soak in hot water and Napisan. Scrub inside and out including soles.  Throw in washing machine with towels to wash.  Dry in drier.
Step Two: Hide from daughter until she sticks her nose in the wrong place and finds them and ruins the surprise.
Step Three: Sew beads to secure the new stitching and to decorate them a little better.

She loves them!!!

Also today - another "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" project came to the fore when somebody on TNN asked how to make holey tights into footless ones.  I can't claim the idea as my own as Sharyn (my stepmum) suggested it but I certainly had the photos and the instructions to suggest...
