Dyeing to get started!

I have a dyeing project today.  A friend of mine has been having troubles similar to mine and I want to make her smile.  At the moment I'm making myself some fingerless gloves and they are knitting up really fast and very nicely.  I've decided to make a pair for two friends - one of whom commissioned a bag from me.  I actually have yarn in that colour - some nice alpaca that I WAS going to make a hat out of but since finding Ravelry I've decided upon a different set of winter warmers and don't need that particular hat anymore so there is no better use for it than to use it in a gift to someone who has given me a lot just by being a friend.  That applies to both these people.

But the second lady - and the one whom I'm knitting for first - recently asked me if I had any time to knit her a few things.  LOL.  Well I'm no knitter - not in the category of commissioned works (yes I know I've had bags commissioned but felting/fulling hides a LOT of mistakes!!!) and I couldn't see getting anything finished and feeling under a lot of pressure to do so.  But upon finishing number one glove for myself I realised I could whip these up very quickly and they would look very nice.  But what colour to do the first pair?  I trawled through the community forum website where I met this lovely lady and timing has worked for me - there was a recent thread of people posting what they want - favourite colours etc and she has posted this info - luckily because she also posted something about a colour she didn't like which was a colour I HAD considered.  I also found some yarn she was looking to buy and today I'm attempting to recreate that colour combination.

I'm quite excited about it because I'm not very imaginative with colourways and this one is completely different from anything I've tried before.  Will post a photo when it's done.

It's looking good - almost the exact colours even though I used cake gel and I'm fairly sure the original, being professionally dyed, would have used procion or something similar.  I basically used three jars in the microwave and kept 2 minute nuking until there was no colour left in the water.  The black is a very dark grey with a hint of red.  The green is probably a bit too khaki and not quite as bright as I'd like.  The blue is spot on but it's taken less at the ends so it's almost two colours.  It's drying now and I'm itching to reskein it so I can take a photo.

It's turned out beautiful if I do say so myself - found my camera, found the battery in the charger but do you think I could find the adapter so I can plug the charger in grrrrr!
