No prizes for...

...guessing what I've been up to today.

This is my first BIG dyeing effort.  The most I've done at once is two or three skeins but this is almost a whole cone - unsure how much it weighs and I actually possibly have too much for the project but if it dyes well then I can use the rest in a smaller project as well.

I've got my fingers crossed - first of all because I wasn't ready to do this.  I've been putting it off but made myself do the overnight vinegar water soak - that was several days ago because I kept putting off the dyeing.  Because it's a project for someone else - ie it's actually been commissioned albeit by a friend - I stress more about getting things right!  Then I happened to peak into the crock pot (where I was soaking it) and realised that the water had gone cloudy white and there were a few brown spots on the wool.  PANIC!  Emptied it out and hung it to drain and quickly prepared the dyeing surface with masses of gladwrap.  Then the crock pot for "cooking" and the dyes.  And then I got into it.  Used about half a container of violet and green so will have to reorder those and now it's sitting in the crock pot waiting to get hot.  I'm very worried about that because I've never dyed this way before - only in the oven and the microwave so I'm not sure it's going to work.  I think I may have made a mistake putting too much water into the crockpot rather than letting it steam a bit more - I don't want the dye to wash out.  I might just go add a glug of vinegar to it to be safe.
