This is what happens when you're itching to post and haven't got anything completed - the post sits in your draft box for almost two months - but it's finally read to go live!!!
Yarn that is - not food - that genereally gets given to the dogs or chooks!!!
My little hand dyeing effort a couple of weeks back has resulted in some quite nice fingerless gloves if I do say so myself. They're drying at the moment - although if this weather is anything to go by that could take some time!!
I found myself with quite a bit leftover after being very careful with the number of rows I did - my own single glove (have yet to do it's matching partner) took a little over half the allocated amount (luckily I have several more of that colour) and having hand dyed it I wasn't wanting to match up a small amount at the end of it. So what to do with the leftovers? Make it into something straight away - something as a keepsake of the dyed wool that I'm quite proud of - even though they're not colours I would have done for myself I do like them.
I've been thinking about replacing my wallet and this amount is perfect to do just that. Just wanted something big enough to house my bank cards with a separate section for my coins and folded up notes. So cast on 40 stitches, taking my lead from the glove pattern which was 44, and stocking stitch in the round until it was bank card length + seaming allowance + zipper allowance + a little bit more just in case. Picked up a zipper from the op shop for 10cents and have more than enough material to line it simply and voila - a coin/card purse. And I've still got some leftover that I might have to do another one and gift it with the gloves - will have to find another zipper though.
Edit: Have decided to make this one to go with the gloves and there is enough after this to make me one as well.
Edited Again: Because I've just discovered that when I broke a machine needle a couple of days ago it was because the sewing arm was out of line and the needle keeps hitting the sewing plate. Will take it in to get repaired and serviced tomorrow but this means that this little purse is probably gonna be a keeper - I have to get the gloves off.
Edited Yet Again: I'm hoping to have this finished tonight just to get a photo on here and this post out of "Draft" status!!! It's all handstitching from here...
